Your book title — along with your cover — is the first thing a potential reader sees, and can be the deciding factor between hitting the buy button or not. Your title is a great opportunity to indicate genre, plot, atmosphere, or characters. Readers like to know what they’re getting into quickly, and your title works in conjunction with your cover to convince them they’ll love this book.
Brainstorming a title can be extremely challenging, especially when you know how much depends on it. When deciding on a title, determine what genre you’re marketing your book toward. Each genre has its own title conventions, and studying the other titles in your genre, especially those that have been selling well, will help you learn how to target your audience.
We created word clouds of the titles we’ve run in each of our categories to help you brainstorm titles for your next book. These word clouds represent the most-used words in each genre, not the highest-selling, and are intended to give you a good idea for what themes and choices are popular among your fellow authors.
