Each Chirp featured deal reaches hundreds of thousands of audiobook listeners in our daily deals email — but did you know this email is only one of many places readers can find discounted books on Chirp? There are lots of other ways Chirp surfaces your featured book (and your other books!) to both Chirp and BookBub readers over the course of your promotion, including via additional emails to targeted audiences and on the Chirp website. Let’s look at all the ways your audiobook deal can get exposure from Chirp!
Wishlist alerts and author deal alerts
While Chirp featured deals are a fantastic discovery tool for readers looking to try new-to-them books and authors, many readers follow authors they already know and save books to their Chirp wishlists. That’s why we send dedicated email alerts to authors’ existing fans and to those who have wishlisted a featured book!
When a book goes on sale, any reader who follows that author on Chirp or has added the book to their wishlist will receive an email letting them know about the deal. These emails prominently feature your book’s discount price and direct readers to purchase the deal straight from the email.
Email to BookBub followers
Similarly, we’ll notify any followers you have on BookBub about your audiobook deal, too! We know lots of authors have grown substantial followings on BookBub, and we want to make sure those readers also get to hear about your audiobook discounts.
“Still interested?” email
If a reader adds a book to their cart but doesn’t finish the checkout process, we send them a reminder of the books they’ve left in their cart and prompt them to complete their purchase — and mention the deal they had their eye on won’t be available for long!
Deal expiration notice
We also send readers a reminder when a deal they wishlisted or added to their cart — but haven’t yet bought — is about to expire, letting them know they have just a few more hours left to catch that deal.
Website carousels and category pages
So far, we’ve looked at additional emails that drive exposure and sales outside of the featured deals email. However, the Chirp website itself is a powerful tool for selling more books. We’ve found that for month-long deals, an average of 30% of the total unit sales during the discount period occur a week or more after the feature’s mailing date. This is because lots of our audiobook listeners don’t subscribe to the daily deals email and instead discover deals through browsing the Chirp website.
When your book is promoted as a featured deal, it’s eligible to appear in carousels on the home page or on genre-focused category pages. Each featured deal promotion is guaranteed to be included in collections of featured deals in the book’s genre, and books with particularly strong sales during their promotion can also appear in prominent carousels on the relevant category page.
“Did you enjoy?” email
While many authors and publishers go into their Chirp deals hoping to see higher unit sales and audiobook revenue, we also commonly hear from partners that one of their goals is to increase the number of reviews on the promoted book. To that end, we send their readers an email as soon as they’ve finished listening to an audiobook, prompting them to leave a rating and review on the Chirp website.
Chirp users have already left over 1.4 million ratings on audiobooks across the website, and books selected as deals typically see a notable increase in ratings in the days and weeks following their promotions.
Other Places Featured Books Might Appear
While every book selected for a deal benefits from the above emails and placements, our team of editors is constantly updating the merchandising placements on the Chirp site to help readers find more books they’ll love. The examples below aren’t guaranteed for every Chirp deal, but show different ways that our editors continue to highlight featured deals throughout the time they’re discounted to drive even more sales.
Book Lists
Book lists are collections of books curated by our editors based on category, theme, or price point. Not all of these collections are deals-focused (since listeners use Chirp to purchase full-priced books, too!); however, many are, and any book promoted as a featured deal is eligible to appear in deals-focused collections.
Related deal placements
As we’ve written about before, discounting other books in an author’s backlist during a featured deal can be a very effective strategy for increasing unit sales and revenue over the course of a Chirp promotion. Related deals are surfaced in several places on the site, including in the “Added to Your Cart” pop-up on your book page and the “Place Order” page in the checkout flow.
Beyond that, related deals are also included in order confirmation emails, as well as the review prompt email we mentioned earlier. We’ll include other books by the same author even if they aren’t discounted. Learn more about setting up related deals, as well as four other tips for making the most of your Chirp deal, here!
Chirp deals are a powerful tool for audiobook promotion, and they’re not just limited to the single daily deals email — on-site merchandising and additional emails based on our readers’ site activity all come together to drive even more sales and exposure of discounted audiobooks.
