Recommending books is a fantastic way to share your favorite reads with your followers on BookBub. As an author, you have a lot of influence in helping your fans discover new books — 76% of BookBub users buy books after getting a recommendation from an author they like, which is nearly as many as those who buy books recommended by friends or family members!
We’ve made some changes to the ways we surface recommendations to BookBub members, so we wanted to share those updates and remind you of all the benefits of posting Recommendations. We used to send our members a weekly summary of new recommendations; now, we email them every time a book recommended by someone they follow has a live deal on BookBub. This makes Recommendations more relevant and engaging, provides extra social proof for the deals we feature, and offers our readers a new way to discover deals on books they’ll love.
Check out these seven ways you can increase visibility for your author brand — and boost other authors! — on BookBub.com by recommending books.
1. Increase visibility to your own followers
This perk is probably not so surprising, but it’s still worth mentioning as one of the primary benefits of posting book recommendations! Every time you recommend a book, your post will appear in your followers’ feeds on our website. Readers can like or comment on the recommendation, purchase the recommended book from their preferred retailer, or save it to their wishlists.
2. Boost other authors’ deals (and ask them to help boost yours!)
We now email our users anytime a book recommended by someone they follow has a deal on BookBub. As an author, this means you can leverage Recommendations to share live deals with your readers! If you see a book you loved in your daily deals email, that’s a perfect time to post a recommendation — if the deal is still available the next day, we’ll email it (and your review!) to your followers. In addition to helping your fans snag great books at a discount, this is a fantastic way to lift up other authors.
3. Get suggested to readers who recommend the same books
After a BookBub member posts their own review or recommendation of a book, we prompt them to follow both that book’s author and other authors who have recommended the same book. The more books you recommend, the more chances you have to be suggested to readers who also loved those books!
4. Your recommendation appears on the book’s page
Readers can browse reviews of any book on BookBub.com. We highlight popular author recommendations at the top of a book’s list of reviews, so this is another great way to get visibility among readers on our platform who don’t follow you yet.
5. You can be highlighted as a notable recommender
In addition to boosting authors who post recommendations in our discovery algorithms, we also specifically highlight top recommenders on the Discover Authors page.
6. You can share your recommendations on social media
Authors can share a recommendation on BookBub.com with their Facebook, Twitter, or Pinterest followers with just a click. This is a great opportunity to entice your social media followers to follow you on BookBub, too. And if you already share book recommendations on multiple platforms, this can save you time! After you post a recommendation, simply click one of the icons to share it on another website, send it to someone via email, or copy the link to it.
7. You can help your fans discover new books to love
Last, but certainly not least, posting Recommendations helps other BookBub members find their next great read. By focusing on recommendations, we’ve created a positive community for readers and authors alike to share the books they love and discover their next favorites.
Note: Recommendations are only available to US members at this time. We hope to expand all of our tools to our international regions in the future, but for now we’d encourage authors based outside of the US who would like access to our newest tools to update their account preferences to the US here. This will also impact your Featured Deal email preferences, so you may need to create a new reader account to continue receiving deals for your region.
