Recommending books is a fantastic way to engage with your followers on BookBub. Every time you recommend a book, your post will appear in your followers’ feeds on our website and could be included in their weekly email roundup of recommendations. Readers can like or comment on your recommendation, purchase the book, or save it to their wishlists.
What you may not know is that recommendations can also help you get exposure to readers outside of your existing audience and find new fans. Check out these seven ways you can get increased visibility for your author brand on BookBub.com by recommending books!
1. They boost your position in our discovery algorithms
BookBub wants to reward authors who are active on our platform, so we’ve started taking recommendations into account in our discovery algorithms. These algorithms determine which authors appear as suggestions for who to follow across BookBub’s platform. There are many places where we suggest authors to follow, including:
BookBub.com home page:
The “Recommended” section of the Discover Authors page:
BookBub.com category pages:
2. You can share your recommendations on social media
Authors now have the ability to share a recommendation on BookBub.com with their Facebook, Twitter, or Pinterest followers! This is a great opportunity to entice your social media followers to follow you on BookBub, too. And if you already share book recommendations on multiple platforms, this can save you time.
After you post a recommendation, simply click one of the icons to share it on another website.
3. You can be highlighted as a notable recommender
We’re highlighting editorially curated recommendations throughout the BookBub ecosystem to give authors’ recs more exposure and help our members discover new books and authors. Readers can browse these “notable recommendations” on the Recommendations page of BookBub.com and on each category page.
Also, if there are no new recommendations from the authors a reader follows in any given week, that member will instead receive an email roundup of top author recommendations.
4. You can be featured on the BookBub reader blog
BookBub readers love knowing which books their favorite authors enjoyed — 76% buy books based on recommendations from authors they like! We often highlight author recommendations on our blog to help our members discover their next read or find new authors who share their tastes. If readers enjoy the books you recommend, they may follow you to learn more about you and the books you write!
5. You get suggested to readers who recommend the same books
After a BookBub member posts their own review or recommendation of a book, we prompt them to follow both that book’s author and other authors who have recommended the same book. The more books you recommend, the more chances you have to be suggested to readers!
6. You can connect with readers and other authors
By focusing on recommendations, we’ve created a positive community for readers and authors to discuss the books they love and discover their next favorites. You can respond to readers’ comments on your own posts to start a conversation about the book you’ve recommended or comment on posts about your own books to thank readers (or authors!) for recommending them!
We also notify other authors when you recommend one of their books, so it can be a great way to build goodwill within the author community.
7. Your recommendation appears on the book’s page
Readers can browse reviews of any book on BookBub.com. We highlight popular author recommendations at the top of a book’s list of reviews, so this is another great way to get visibility among readers viewing books on our platform.
Note: Recommendations are only available to US members at this time. We hope to expand all of our tools to our international regions in the future, but for now we’d encourage authors based outside of the US who would like access to our newest tools to update their account preferences to the US here. This will also impact your Featured Deal email preferences, so you may need to create a new reader account to continue receiving deals for your region.
